The Team …
- The number of players on the field and the number rostered to each team varies with age groups.
- Teams are selected according to the established policies of WHYSA:
- Teams are generally area-based.
- Available practice locations and special circumstances may influence team assignment.
- Nucleus of team, assistant and coach’s child and sponsor’s child
- ASSIGNMENTS TO PARTICULAR PRACTICE AREAS. TEAMS, OR COACHES CANNOT BE GUARANTEED.
The Coach …
- Every team must have at least one coach; teams may NOT play without one.
- Head coaches must be NYSCA certified or FYSA licensed.
- Knowledge of soccer is not a requirement; training and support are provided through coaching clinics and the assistance of the age group coordinators.
- Coaches need the cooperation and assistance of the team’s parents, one or more of whom should volunteer to be “Team Parent” responsible for organizing refreshments for players at games; dealing with player passes; helping with uniform and team picture distribution; and arranging carpools.
Parents & Spectators…
- Parents should ensure that players are transported to and from the practice areas and playing fields at the designated times.
- Parents should ensure that players are appropriately dressed for soccer, have their equipment ( ball, shin guards, etc ), as well as drinks and medications, if required.
- Parents should positively support their players: encourage, don’t criticize.
- Questions, concerns, complaints, or suggestions about administrative matters, coaching, or the conduct of games should be discussed with league officials, but not in the presence of players.
- Let the coach do the coaching, and let the referee do the refereeing .
- Applaud skill and good sportsmanship: never exhort players to commit fouls.
- Please use the trash can provided.
- Parents or spectators behaving inappropriately will be warned and, if necessary, will be sent away by team coaches and/or league officials.
The Sponsor …
- Businesses or individuals may sponsor a team by contributing $345 to WHYSA. The fee provides uniforms for the players. Sponsors receive:
Recognition in WHYSA publications
